Malta – Sardinia – Corsica – France – Spain
Spring Crossing.
Florette starts her year tracing the old trade routes north from Malta through the Western Mediterranean. It’s the quiet stretch before summer, when the sea is calm, the wind is steady, and the crew is full of energy. This is the kind of sailing that reminds you what travel used to feel like: simple, raw, and wide open.
Route
Florette begins her year in Malta and sails north through the Western Mediterranean. The route follows old marble and trade paths that once connected the islands and ports of Europe.
From Malta, the ship crosses toward Sardinia, then up past Corsica and on to France. Along the way there are quiet anchorages, small harbours, and long stretches of open water. The voyage reaches its height in Sète at Escale à Sète, one of Europe’s largest tall ship gatherings, where Florette joins a fleet of working sailing ships for a week of music and celebration. The journey continues west to Castellón, Spain, for the Festival of the Sea, another meeting of crews and ships that keep the craft of sailing alive.
It’s early in the season, with cool air and clear, open water. The crew works with the wind and settles into life on the water.
Why This Route
This is the Florette experience in its purest form: long passages under sail, open water, and ports shaped by maritime life. It’s for those who want to cover real distance, feel the change of seasons at sea, and build confidence through time on board. In spring, the Tavolara Reserve and Sardinia’s east coast remain quiet and clear, with open anchorages and little traffic. Guided by seasonal winds, the route moves between secluded bays and remote stretches of coast, combining sailing days with time ashore for hiking, swimming, and exploration.
