Getting There

Marina “Carmelo”, Vibo Marina, Valentia, Italy
Please note that both arrival and departure times can be flexible so please let us know if you will be arriving later/leaving earlier. Florette will remain in port for the first evening and will come back into port the night before disembarkation.

By Air
Lamezia Airport (SUF) is the closest to the Marina. RyanAir offer direct flights from Stansted to Lemezia three times a week. Other flights from the UK normally require a change over in Milan or Rome which are available from London Heathrow, Manchester,  Birmingham, Bristol and some other regional airports. From either Milan MXP Milan BGY, or Rome (FCO) airports you can take an internal flight which is approximately 1hr 50 mins. Many low cost Airlines such as WizzAir, Easy Jet,  RyanAir and Italian ITA Airways offer these flights daily.

Once at Lamezia Airport it’s a 30minute taxi ride to the Marina. There are registered taxi companies operating from outside of the airport. Please ensure you agree a price before getting in the taxi.

By Train
You can also choose to fly to Rome (FCO) or Naples (NAP) airports and head to the central station, there you take the train down to  Vibo-Pizzo Station, this is about 5-6 hours, with a short 10 min taxi ride to the marina from there. A beautiful, good value and a sustainable way to see the country.

THE AEOLIAN ISLANDS

This Mediterranean gem consists of seven inhabited islands, each with its unique characteristics. From lush green hills to active volcanic craters, the islands boast a stunning variety of natural landscapes within a compact area. In 2000, the archipelago was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of the main attractions is Stromboli’s regular volcanic eruptions, which provide a spectacular natural display. The volcanic mountains and Mediterranean scenery make these islands a true paradise for hiking enthusiasts.

This active adventure in Italy is packed with phenomenal experiences, from active sailing with a historic tall ship to hiking volcanos to immerse yourself in a 6,000-year-old culture and exploring the beautiful archipelago.

Join Florette in the heart of the Aeolian Islands on the island of Lipari. This voyage will be joined by a hiking guide who will lead daily hikes on the islands, with a minimum of 4 hours per hike.

Founded in 2002, Magmatrek brings together a dedicated group of Volcanological Guides who live and work in Stromboli and Ginostra, united by a shared passion for the island and its volcano. Our mission is to celebrate and promote the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Aeolian archipelago and Sicily as a whole.
Through our excursions, we aim to impart our extensive naturalistic, anthropological, and historical knowledge, acquired from years of experience. Participants receive detailed insights into the area's vegetation, fauna, and geology. Our technical expertise ensures a safe and enriching experience. Our tours are in English.

Please note !

Our tours cater to all types of travelers, from families and solo adventurers to photography enthusiasts and researchers.
For the enjoyment and safety of everyone, it's crucial that participants maintain a good level of fitness. This allows everyone to comfortably keep up with our planned activities. Participants should be prepared to hike for 6 to 7 hours and manage altitudes reaching up to 1000 meters in steep and slippery terrain. Achieving this fitness level not only enhances personal safety and enjoyment but also fosters a positive group dynamic, enabling everyone to fully appreciate the breathtaking landscapes and exhilarating experiences each excursion has to offer.

Please note that daily itineraries depend on wind, weather, and volcanic activity. The Captain and guide create the final program, prioritizing safety while ensuring an enjoyable experience for everyone. Each voyage is unique, offering spontaneity and discovery.

Vulcano: The Gran Cratere hike offers breathtaking views with a 4 km round trip. It's moderately difficult due to steep inclines but rewarding with stunning
volcanic landscapes.
Lipari: "The largest island in the archipelago offers a variety of trails and insights into its geology, history, and stunning landscapes. The guide can suggest different options to help the group find the ideal way to explore the
island.”
Salina: Climbing Monte Fossa delle Felci is a 10 km round trip. It's a challenging hike with steep sections, but the views from the highest point in the Aeolian
Islands are spectacular.
Panarea:
The punta del corvo hike is 7,6 km long, easy to moderate in difficulty, offering beautiful costal views and and a peaceful
journey through Mediterranean flora.
Stromboli: The Sciara del Fuoco trek is moderately difficult, stretching over 7 km. It offers an exhilarating experience with views of the active volcano and the Strombolian activity, especially thrilling at night.

The Aeolian Islands

Although Lipari has approximately 5,000 residents, it retains the charm of a typical Sicilian village. It boasts one of the most beautiful archaeological museums in Italy and a picturesque old town filled with small shops.

Known as the Green Islands, Salina was revitalized in the 1970s as an agricultural hub. It features numerous vineyards and is famous for its dessert wine, Malvasia delle Lipari, and its capers, which are considered some of the best in the world. Hikers can trek to the archipelago’s highest peak through beautiful pine and chestnut forests.

When we arrive at Vulcano, the smell of sulfur greets us immediately. Until the 19th century, sulfur and alum were mined just meters from the quay. Today, the harbour is lined with souvenir shops, spas, hotels, and bars, and visitors can indulge in sulfur mud baths. A highlight of this island is the hike to the crater, where you can see the yellow sulfur fumaroles.

Stromboli has served as a navigational point for seafarers since ancient times, particularly at night due to its frequent eruptions. The volcano erupts every 15 to 20 minutes, and depending on the magma levels in the chimney, lava fountains can soar several hundred meters above the crater rim.
